Margeaux and I got together yesterday for her specialized Jenny Evelyn style Couture Bridal Session.  Some people like to call it a Trash the Dress, but I like to think of it as an opportunity to create a custom piece of art for my clients.  Margeaux got married back in October and we have been planning and waiting for the weather to warm up for a summery bridal look.  We had a blast hitting some very cool locations around Macon, GA.  Since I just shot it yesterday I need need to edit the digital images I shot, but here  is a little instant gratification I can share from the film that I shot.

These are shot with my Polaroid 600 and Fuji  FP- 100c

I also shot a few images on my old Cannon film camera that I actually learned to shoot on in college.  Here I am shooting on  fuji s-400 with my Tamron 17-55 with an in camera vignette.

I can’t wait to share some more of the digital ones with you soon! I hope you enjoyed the film sneak peek!

Since we returned from Scotland a little over a month ago people have not stopped asking me to post pics.  I have been either shooting weddings or engagement sessions  non-stop so my sweet hubby agreed to be my guest blogger and take you though some of our journey over the next few weeks!  He is quite the witty writer so it should be fun!  Thanks Koutsunis (aka the other babers)  At the end of the series, I am planning on posted a gallery on my proofsite if any of you are interested in purchasing a fine art print from our travels.  This series of photos is a highlight of our trip from Edinburgh down through the Northumberlands and to the coast!

As we drove through the countryside of Northumberland the freak spring snow had not yet melted from most of the higher elevation fields.

img_5499

img_5501

Though the countryside of Scotland and England is still very rural and mostly pasture land filled with the typical sheep and some cattle, it has changed a bit from the almost purely livestock based place it was in the last century.  Windfarms like this are a perfect way to provide electricity to a small rural farming community that most likely never had electricity before this.

img_5518img_5520

These sheep are most likely Cotswold, raised for wool.  Other types of sheep with less wool are raised mainly for meat.

img_5530

img_5539

The guys with the black faces are Shropshire.  This one was eating what we think is a large turnip, apparently the farmers dropped a truck load of turnips into the fields for them.

img_5567

It was lambing season and almost all the sheep had one or two lambs not far from them.  Twins and sometimes triplets are common.

img_5574

We stopped by a small enclosed pen beside a country road at the edge of a large flat of fields and I jumped over the fence and these guys came right up to me.  This sheep was huge, but when I touched him it was all wool.  The goats ate the grass I gave them but then ignored me. As a side note my parents have a goat named Fred.  Fred acts just like a dog and will jump in your lap and follows you around where ever you go, eating random things and chasing the dogs along the way.  He also loves to do laps around the porch and jump off doing a kicking flip in mid air, he is an extremely talented goat.

details2

Pheasants were all over the place, and much like the opossums and armadillo of the South, they were constantly making bad road crossing decisions.

img_5581

These stone buildings were used as barns.

img_5599img_5600

Small castle structures dotted the countryside.

_mg_2786

A curious sheep, wondering whether to come closer in the event we had turnips, or to bolt at the first sign of a pair of sheers.

_mg_2750

Here is a short video Jenny took we replaced the audio because she was freaking out.. I really wanted to smuggle one home with us.

I almost caught this guy. Having escaped me, he gave us this look as we got back into the car._mg_2765

We saw fewer cows than sheep.  This cow and her calf may be a Red Heifer.

_mg_2767

img_5697

These sheep might be Bluefaced Leicester.  The guy on the right with the tags in his ears may be some sort of Cheviot.  Identifying all these sheep is impossible, Wikipedia you have failed me.

details5

In all the places we have been, the freedom of having a car and exploring the countryside has been the most fun. And a shout out to Tom Tom for getting us back on track after our random wondering though the countryside.

_mg_2777

Instead of wood or stone or wire fencing we saw a lot of hedge fencing. This fence was recently planted.

img_5604

Daffodils were EVERYWHERE!  Jenny had a mild obsession with photographing them… there are many more photos of daffodils to come from our trip.  I am sure we will never look at them the same way again.

details3

img_5625

We saw many beautiful old churches.

img_5638img_5668

The moss covered graves were especially enchanting.

details4

We pulled randomly into an overgrown driveway and ended up at this beautiful old house.

img_5670img_5678

Complete with love birds.  This is one of the many bed and breakfast’s that were off the beaten path and would be a wonderful place to stay, away from the cities, for a romantic honeymoon or anniversary.

_mg_2744

This is Jenny’s dream rock wall, I expect to be loading, unloading, stacking stones, and planting various flowering vines soon.  Then I’ll sleep for at least an entire day.

_mg_2746

This little stream was the perfect example of a burbling brook.

img_5709img_5716

We decided to head east towards the ocean and found a windy, rocky shore.  It smelled like salt and sea foam.

I see a future Facebook picture here.

A miss-judged timing shot came out pretty cool.

This is what we were going for!

Jenny running to climb on the rocks in her new Wellies.  They were hard to find since the stores had switched to their summer products and after the snow storm everyone was out looking for them.

This shore edge picture, with the bird in “painting” type flight reminds me of the feel of this area.

On May 16th Angel married her Airman Andy!  It was a honor to photograph such a sweet and loving couple.  Their day was filled with Angel’s creativity and  lots of personal touches.  The wedding took place at Pineola Farms and the Cotton Barn.  It is  a beautiful venue and I cannot say enough great things about Paul and Delise Knight.  They are a well oiled wedding machine and their assistant Jessica was my right hand gal.  You guys rocked!  I cannot wait to work with you again!  Ok, so onto the wedding preview.

The day started at Dempsey Salon for the ladies.  Jennifer Dempsey (jennifer@dempseysalon.com) did a fab job with all the ladies hair.  She even had little treats and an awesome set up for the girls to work on hair and makeup.

blog-2-of-15

Angel had a photo saved of their trial run.

blog-1-of-15

Then we headed to the farm. Here are some of the MANY details from the day!

angelandyc-1-of-5

As you can see the theme was a garden/farm style wedding; with lots of yellow and blue accents.  I especially loved her use of the old blue Mason jars.  Delise Knight is a talented florist and did an incredible job bringinAngel’s concepts together perfectly.   I still cannot get over the bride’s bouquet that was made of 19 Peonies wrapped carefully with two of Angel’s grandparent ’s handkerchiefs.   The little yellow flowers were just perfect and so unusual …they are called Billy Balls. (so cute )

The dress and shoes.

angelandyc-4-of-5

With a little help from mom… Angel was picture perfect.

angelandy-16-of-122

There are so many places at the farm house /bridal suite to photograph a blushing bride!  Here are a few of my favorites of Angel.

Andy was tall dark and handsome.

Another cool detail: as the bride and groom left at the end of the night they ran through these little paper airplanes.  Fitting since Andy is a pilot.

Guys being guys.

blog-22-of-3

Ring shot! Funny story.  Andy lost his ring snorkeling on the honeymoon and a couple of days later another snorkeler found it!!!  What are the chances?

angelandy-14-of-1222

Then just in time for the ceremony the clouds came out.

blog-12-of-15

We had to regroup for an indoor ceremony.  I was saying rain, rain go away and while we waited…The folks at Pineola took lemons and made lemonade.  Paul Knight collected some of the rain water in a jar and gave it to the bride and groom to save and use some day for their first child’s baptism.

angelandyc-2-of-5

So it was time to tie the knot Cotten Barn style.  Andy had an emotional moment as he saw his bride for the first time.

He couldn’t take his eyes off her.

I loved that they opened up the barn doors so we still had the feel of being outside.

That is right its Lisa Shepley with Lisa Mae Cakes!  I got together with her recently and got to photograph some of her cakes here.  She is such an artist and I loooooved Andy’s cake!

Thank you Angel and Andy for sharing your day with me.  I feel so blessed to have captured the day you began your journey as man and wife. Your friends and family and everything that you put into making your day special really shined through the thunderstorm.  I hope you have enjoyed your wedding preview!  I look forward to sharing all your wedding images with you!

Barnes Family

May 6th, 2009

Recently I got to do a family session with the Barnes.  It feels really odd saying that and not referring to my parents because my maiden name is Barnes.   Stephen Barnes is my first cousin and if you have not noticed I have a really LARGE family.  It was a really fun time and I am so glad that got to spend some time with Stephen and Christian and their sweet kiddos!    It was a special shoot for me.  Stephen was one of the first of my cousin’s to get married and I remember attending his wedding. I was in high school  and was so impacted by their ceremony that when I got married I had Christian’s aunt, Becky Morecraft, sing The Lord’s Prayer at my wedding too.  The thought never crossed my mind then that I would be a wedding photographer and be photographing their family one day.  God works all things in mysterious ways!

This is the first shot that we did.  It’s my favorite and I stole the idea from another photographer, John Michael Cooper.  It was just genius and I think I am going to try to do it every time I photograph a family.  The concept is that everyone (even the baby) has a personal item that is important to them right at this point in their life. What awesomeness!

Personal items from L to R.  dolly, childhood copy of  The Hobbit,  wooden ax made by daddy, mama’s iphone, giraffe chew toy.

snbarnes-0001

And of course we did some family photos without the personal items.

The Martin Girls.

April 30th, 2009

When Koutsunis and I were dating I lived in Savannah, GA and he lived in Beaufort, SC.  We used to meet half way in Bluffton, SC for dinner dates and sometimes we would go out with our dear friends the Martins.  They were such a fun couple and we miss them.  They had twin girls and then moved to Columbia, SC.  Then about a year ago they had another little girl.  I always called their twins “the strawberries” and now they have three strawberries!  I got to do a session last time I was in the ‘boro because they happen to be in town.  Jenny  Martin (that’s right she is a Jenny too) is a super mom and has mastered finding all kinds of ways to save money at lots of southern stores such as Kroger, Publix, CVS, and Walgreens. You have to check out her blog before you go shopping again! Her website is http://www.southernsavers.com/

O.k. so onto the photos!

Here is the baby.  It’s her one year portrait.

Lauren’s Senior Shoot

Lauren is about to graduate class of ‘09!!!  Its kinda crazy for me to think about because I was part of the class of ‘99…man I feel old!  ha!  She is such a sweetie and has such great energy! We had a blast doing her shoot.  I think her personality really came through.  My back yard is not usually the first place I pick to photograph, but the little pink flowers were in bloom so we started there. 040909-0009

This past weekend was Emily’s wedding and I have been dying to post some of her bridals from a couple of weeks ago when I was in Statesboro, GA.  Emily and Adam’s wedding was held at Meinhardt Vineyard…it was not available for her bridal session but, John Marshall (a family friend and the owner of Marshall’s Farm) was kind enough to let us use his vineyard for the backdrop of Emily’s session.

This is my absolute favorite shot…and the one that Emily printed for her reception!…more pics of that to come soon!
